Boyfriend of two years broke up with me but wants to stay friends?

Question

He always does me favors, will help me look for a new car and a washing machine, drives me places and generally helps me out. He always hugs me and says “Let’s keep in touch” when he leaves. Why would he do that if isn’t interested in getting back together?

Sounds like he genuinely cares about you but at some point realized the attraction was no longer there and/or didn't want a long term relationship with you.

Tough situation. He could either just completely cut the cord, but he's apparently decided to keep one foot in the water and try to maintain an awkward friendship. Hard to say which option would be better in this specific situation.

My ex-fiance of 10 years broke up with me but wanted to stay friends, I told her to push off because she'd been cheating on me the last year or two that we were together! had we actually broken up, first and THEN she started seeing someone else, I doubt I would've minded so much.

Look in my opinion he doesn't want to lose you as a person, and wants to be in your life. 2 years is no joke bro, he wants to hang around you.. so the safe thing he can do is stay friends. He likes your company. But if you want, do a no contact for 3 months, and then be friends. Dont directly go for being friends, that'll not help any of u move on. Makes sense?

He probably doesn’t have that romantic ‘spark’ with you anymore, but it sounds like he still really likes you as a person and enjoys being in your company and hanging out with you as a friend.

He wants to stay friends. Lots of couples stay friends after they break up. Being friends and being in a relationship are not the same thing. He wants to be friends but not in a relationship.
