He initiates the conversation but doesn’t ask me questions?

Guys I need your help! So I’ve been talking to this guy for 9 months now and we’ve been on and off. Every single time we text, he’s the one to initiate the conversation and asks me how I’m doing. However, most of the time it ends up with me being left on read. And weeks later, he’ll initiate the conversation again, asking me how I’ve been (with me being afraid he’ll leave me on read again). I’m usually the one asking the probing questions and thinking of topics while he rarely asks me questions to try to keep the conversation going. Guys - can you help me decipher what’s going on here? Girls - has this happened to you before?

Why don't you ever initiate conversations? Have you communicated with him about your concerns?

I don’t initiate conversations because the conversation always ends with him leaving my reply on read. I feel “annoying” double texting so I just wait until he initiates again…how do you think I should go about this?

That's a ridiculous reason to not initiate. First of all, if you are being left on read EVERY time do some self analysis. Maybe you aren't making the conversation worth holding? Is this an online relationship? Have you met in person?

Second, you aren't double texting when it's two different conversations. Stop worrying about all of these unwritten text rules, it's exhausting and annoying.

Thanks for the reply! Is there a way I can signal to him that I enjoy talking to him and want to take things to the next level? I respond pretty quickly and always open up and ask lots of questions about his personal life, family, hobbies, etc.
