Is it bad to agree to a friend with benefits situation with someone I originally wanted a relationship with just for my own needs?

As someone that has done that, it's extremely risky. It's "ok" as long as you're ok with it. But the chances of you developing feelings for them and wanting more in time are extremely high. And then you're playing with fire because if their feelings (or lack of) don't change, then you're in for a world of hurt! And add to that a lot of people have NO respect for their fwbs, so they are likely just to leave you, probably in a horrible way like ghosting you, which only makes the pain even more painful.

It could be, as friends with benefits eventually gets feelings, and if you already have feelings that could make things worse for you.

If you think you can separate it and not have it happen, go for it but it won't be easy.
