What makes guys better cut for videogames?

Question

So i just can't figure out what in men's heads can make them better at videogames, than us women. Of course, there are good female players. But i talk about that, the average boy player would be better than the average girl player. I do know that time spent playing is a huge factor, but for examples:
I have no idea how your mind works when you play strategy/tactical games. I have played and watched boys play - WarCraft 3 and StarCraft 2. I often make bad decisions, don't calculate what might be optimal, can't make use of strength and weaknesses right.
World of WarCraft boss encounters or PvP - How do you remember all these mechanics and decide what to avoid, when to attack, calculate what/when/how much and so on. Without a brain freeze or panic! Because that's what happens to me! Or when i play PvP and i watch how boys do it, feels like i have no idea how to even defend myself, never mind attack!
Action Games DarkSiders 2 and 3 - How in the world perceive the right moment to dodge and counter-attack? The fights in these games are kinda real, and i remember my ex bein able to adapt and fight in different situations, like - outnumbered, but smaller, weaker enemies.
Huge, stronger monsters, finding ways how to defeat it, avoiding it's strikes, counter-attack.
I remember a boss fight in which, the Boss was preparing and stabbing you with an attack which lasts for half a second! I couldn't not even see it! Aside from dying from it, that's it. He managed to dodge it! DODGE IT! He managed to dodge, what i couldn't see. Is there some inner sense of timing that men and boys have, which we girls/women do not? Are you able to focus that much, that you actually perceive things better?
What i cannot ever forget, is how that one time, he dodged an attack coming from behind... it wasn't even visible on the screen! He said he heard footsteps and somehow reacted in time, to avoid the strike. Before his explanation, i was looking in awe, my mouth wide open.

As you say, experience is a big factor, but a way you might not have considered about it is growing up doing it. If you've ever watched a baby learning to walk, you've seen them try to rise, collapse, try again, stagger, and fall. Again and again, gravity drives them down, and again and again, they rise to defy it (if we ever DO truly conquer gravity, it will be due to efforts of the baby-fat person alliance; mark my words!). You see similar results with children and difficult tasks, but the older you get, the more resistance you seem to feel towards doing something you're not good at, for fear you'll fail and look stupid. Guys are generally better at overcoming that resistance, but girls can do it, too- few just seem to want to. There's also often a social element to it- even a single-player game can become a social phenomenon, kind of like a TV show or movie that everyone's watching- wanting to not be left out can be a powerful motivator. And if it IS a multiplayer thing, you don't want to let your companions down.

It's not a popular sentiment these days, but evolution doesn't stop at the neck. Men and women evolved to fill different social roles, and you see that in their strengths and their deficiencies, as well as their general preferences. What sets humans apart from the other great apes, at least as far as behavior is concerned, is how much- and how well- our adult males cooperate. We work together, and that's why you don't see chimps building skyscrapers or orangutans playing guitars. That doesn't mean we don't compete with each other, mind- we do, and HARD; that's another motivator- but it's less destructive and FAR less lethal. This is probably a big part of why you tend to encounter so many more women in co-op focused games; obviously we don't have full numbers, but I heard WAY more female voices playing Left 4 Dead than in more competitive games. Now, if you go back and look at old video game marketing from the 70's and 80's, you'll see that it wasn't gendered- you were as likely to see girls as boys playing on their Ataris (you'll also see some truly bizarre commercials; the one for Centipede has to be seen to be believed). It wasn't until the 90's that that really started to change; the Sega ads in particular were MUCH more boy-focused. As the market exploded, it shifted more and more that way, and when internet multiplayer started getting huge in the late 90's, most of the playerbase was male. And so it became a culture very masculine in psychological orientation: competitive, meritocratic, straightforward, and ambitious. There are people who will tease you as a sign of affection, as a means to throw you off and gain and advantage, as a social bonding rite, as a test of your psychological toughness, or as some combination of the above (this is the root of much- though again, not all- of the "harassment" that so many people decry happens to women in these communities; they're being treated the same way men are, just targeted at different angles, and have trouble coping with a much more rough-and-tumble culture than they're used to). Most women are far gentler with each other, at least on the surface, and struggle to adapt. Some communities are far more pleasant than others, of course, and many games reach an audience that's less... assholic, let's call it. But a girl who pokes her head in and dislikes what she sees isn't likely to stick around, and that makes her less likely to want to learn more, or play more and develop the skills needed to match her male counterparts.

So there's a lot working in favor of guys, but it's not an insurmountable set of obstacles.

Guys tend to think more logically/strategically and that helps them with strategy games like Star Craft. They also tend to have quicker reflexes in shooting games. (Look at the different tournaments of FPS games and the teams of women lose early on often)

Online though, there can be many factors so it is difficult to compare that. Someone's TV speed, screen size, cable/HDMI speed, and internet speed all factor in during online matches.

I don't think that is true, it is all based on experience. If the person plays games all the time since little, they will be good at games. I can pick any new game and be better than the average player from the get go, because I play since I was like 5 different types of games and things like that. There are patterns in games, certain genres behave similar, if you are good at FPS, you will be good at basically any FPS after a day or two of playing it. If you are good with RPGs, you will be good at any RPG.

I wouldn't say that we're worse at computer (or video) games than the boys. Without meaning to sound as though I'm bragging, when it comes to strategy games (ex. the city-building games, or running a company - ex. 'Railroad Tycoon') I'm actually quite good at it, and I doubt anyone could do better. I'm also a fantastic chess player.
However, I do not - ever - play online games, only against the computer, the challenge levels of which can be adjusted to suit whatever skill level you're at.

It can be a lot of things depending on the genre of game to be honest. I don't get a lot of time to play these days, but a lot of what I noticed in women that play is the panic factor under stress. For FPS games and high speed games, men are usually able to stay calm to a greater extent. But I think theoretically a woman could overcome that issue with enough practice and desensitizing.

The tactical games are another issue and at the risk of being offensive, I'd have to say I don't think women will ever be equal on that front. Not because it means women are dumb or anything, but because that linear step by step logical analysis while maintaining multiple other contingencies is something that the male brain just seems to excel at. Same reason that Chess has an actual female category. And honestly, I think it would be damaging to remove that category, because you'd have brilliant women like Judit Polgar competing with people like Carlson and she wouldn't be able to stand as the best woman in the world, which she is.

Guys are not better than girls at gaming. If you take thew statistics now days! there is about 30-40% female gamers that play mainstream games, depending on country too. In my squad i have 2 females and they are both great at COD, GTA, Rocket League, LOL, Apex legends , valorant and more. We are 8 guys and 2 girls. All my years of gaming i am above average and when i was a little bit younger i played some pro local competitive games in Sweden and won prizes with my teams where i had female teammates. It's only numbers, if guys has 12 million gamers that are pros, so girls maybe has 4 million pro gamers. Why! Because many girls don't play video games which is changing now and many are starting playing video games, even my wife started playing video games and she is at my age and she has no experience, so she play car games and she is trying to play GTA 5 and the witcher 3, i put her videos on my youtube channel.

I mean it's just time and numbers. It's also possible other things play a role, for example if you play a lot of chess and have decent visualisation you might have better visualisation than an "average" person starting out playing go (if you chose to start playing go). I've never played go or at least a lot of it but I think the principle works, there are general "skills" you can pickup, aim.. understanding of how games and player psychology might work, tactics. Someone decent in aim in one game is probably still decent in another which uses aim

I guess on average, more men choose gamimg as a hobby than women. And its not as simple as turning on an xbox and immediately being good at it. It takes literally HUNDREDS of hours to get it down.

As to why mostly guys do It I have no Idea. Guys and girls are represented pretty equally in games as far as I can tell.

If you're interested in getting into it thats awesome. To get good at them just be non challante. Its just a game. You'll lose every match and get destroyed by try-hards at first. Thats how you learn to play.

I really don't think men have a natural advantage at playing video games. I play games that you can i can pretty much play forever without getting bored. Games like skyrim, fallout, minecraft, etc. I've been dedicated to these games and have invested countless hours into playing these particular games. Then other games I don't really care much for, just causally play with the boys, I'm absolute trash lol. It really just depends on how much you're dedicated to a specific game. You have to be put in the time to actually get good.

Time spent gaming. I think guys might also spend more time reading up on strategy. Plus stats and items for games. Because just playing requires some dumb luck in finding what works. While reading up on the game and advice from pros. Let’s you understand how the mechanics work better.

sorry but its nothing about gender to that. in this case you just are not mentally adept at strategic thinking at a high enough degree for most games. plenty of other people (both male and female are) . could also be an issue of not recognizing and remembering pattetns. like that one boss' atrack you did not see but he dodged, likely he memorized the timing of it off his own playing or even your playing or even watching another person online such as in a video strategy guide kind of thing.
