Why don’t guys talk to me as much as the women?

I work as a security guard at a university. One of the biggest things I’ve noticed is that the girls always smile at me and greet me. I have received a lot of warmth from the girls. I get special attention from girls of my own race. But for the guys , I notice that none of them except maybe for 1 guy out of 20 ever genuinely smiled at me. A lot of them seem to lack eye contact or seem slightly awkward and don’t really care. A lot of them just say hello just because they have to. It just doesn’t sound like a genuinely friendly hello.

it just leads me to wonder. Am I unattractive? Is that why the guys are so much colder than the girls?

A lot of guys anymore want nothing to do with women.

Add in the prevalence of dating apps and everyone being addicted to their smartphone, and young people—especially young men—simply don’t know how to talk with women, even platonically.

Many of them have read stories or anecdotes about women complaining about guys hitting on them when they just want to be left alone, or objectifying them, or “sexualizing” them, and they’ve just decided it’s safer to just keep their head down.

Avoid eye contact. Don’t even look at women. Only speak to them when you absolutely have to and keep it as short as possible. Maybe you’ll make them uncomfortable.

So it’s not really you. You’re personalizing it. It has nothing to do with you. This is the new dynamic between men and women.

It's possible they're intimidated by a woman in uniform, but more likely they don't want to risk offending you and getting themselves in trouble. Guys don't need to do much to be accused these days after all.
