Why would a guy break up via text and then refuse to see you?

He supposedly broke up cause he was gonna move and the more we spent together the harder it was gonna be for him. But why would he be such a coward as to not say so in person? Would seeing each other make it harder for him to stick to his decision? Or just a player?
