Why do men at the gym hit on me?

I had an older guy ask me if I’m single and taking resumes, others stare a lot but don’t talk to me, and some compliment in passing. I’m new to the gym so not sure how common this is and if I should be suspicious/have my guard up.

It is common unfortunately. A fit woman is very attractive and men are visual creatures. If all they are doing is looking, I would just ignore it. Also, sometimes when you think a man is staring at you he might just be staring into space while resting between sets. If you are unsure, walk around and see if his gaze stays on you.

If they are just giving you a quick compliment and moving on, I would not worry too much about it. Those compliments can just as easily be a man trying to be encouraging to a woman as it can be them "hitting on you". There are guys who just genuinely love seeing women overcome "gymtimidation" and want to be welcoming.

If a man is making you feel uncomfortable or is really really pressing things, you can ask him to stop. If he refuses then you can contact gym staff. If you are there during unstaffed hours, note the time then come back when staff are present and tell them what happened and they can figure things out.

Yeah that happens when you get blokes who go just to ogle women, usually at the fashion gyms. I prefer the gyms where everyone just goes to train really hard.
