A guy trying to get to know you is not a sign he's actually interested in you. It's one of the first steps in flirting.

Guys who get lots of women are good at starting conversations that escalate sexually very quickly.

More emotional guys who do well with women tend to go for more of a conversational approach where they try to gage the woman's interest more. So they will pull the women out of her comfort zone (in terms of sexually escalateing the convo) gradually.

This is why it's called dating. You're going to make a few mistakes, you're probably going to get taken advantage of once or twice.

You have the conversations and get a big-picture feel for who you're talking to and what motivates them.

If you want to know if someone cares about you, you need to look at all their actions, it's not just about conversation, it's about them remembering your interests, how intrigued are they by you, how differently they act around you vs other people and think about why.
