Why would a guy act so hot and cold?

So there's this guy at work, we were assigned to be partners for a while and the connection hit off. We would tease and get to know more about each other. We had a lot of laughs together and you know the look that someone gives you and it feels like it's a lot of emotions.. I get that from him. i really do think that there was a vibe and something more could come off of it. We are following each other on social media, he's constantly one of the first to look at my stories, and ever since nothing else has happen and I would like something to happen. However, there's one encounter I can't seem to shake off.

We were celebrating and I was with my friend. I believe we both recognized each other but have not acknowledged our presence. I was talking to another person and him and his group of friends came up laughing super loud and started to talk to someone beside us and he came just beside me, I looked at him but he continued to look straight. Then I went to talk to someone else, and I could see that he would glance at me and when I noticed, he would look the other way... After that I saw that he was talking discreetly to his friends and they started to look towards me and sort of tease him? Also, another thing, while I was in a conversation with another person (she was trying to matchmake me with another guy), he went out of his way to pass just in front of me, still not saying hi or anything.

I'm not saying it's all on him, I mean I could have said hi or come up to him, but this is way too much complicated to my liking.

Is he shy or in another relationship? It would not hurt to just ask him if he is interested in a relationship. Maybe he is a virgin and kinda nervous?

I think, I’m not sure but I’ve heard that he once said to another girl that he had a girlfriend so she could back off.. other than that I don’t know

I think you are overthinking what he is doing. He isn't hot and cold, you just aren't the only thing going on in his world.

Also I had a relationship like this with a coworker once, unforgettable but then he turned out to be a rude asshole once everything was done and he moved on to the next target!

Id say.. go with the flow.. if he says hi , you say Hi.. if he flirts.. you flirt or if you feel like doing something.. go with it.. dont overthink anything. Things will fall in place automatically. LMK if you want to DM more..
