Because they are pigs they want everybody to know that that's their girlfriend and that they've had sex and giving hickeys as one of the worst things in the world that you could have done to you it's a marking of some sort it makes the guy feel like he's a stud I think it is actually stupid

Same reason girls do lol. Just a visual cue to other guys saying "sorry dudes but she's already spoken for" or if a girl leaves one "sorry ladies but he's mine"
