maybe it's a way for him to gain knowledge about girls.
fear of rejection is a major issue.
think about it - he doesn't have to approach, speak, or otherwise engage with them but can still learn about them. now - if he's hanging around outside their houses, then that's a bit different.
if it bothers you, then break contact and move on.

No. That's not a red flag. It's a piece of information that might become significant IN CONTEXT once you put it together with other things about a specific guy. But by itself it's pretty-well meaningless so far as 'red-flag-type' calculations. 🙂
