Why is he acting like this?

I’ve been seeing this guy for about 6 months. He seemed really nice at the start but the last 6-8 weeks he’s been trying to manipulate me and Being a narcissistic prick.

I have held myself so whenever he goes off or treats me badly I go off at him back because I’m not tolerating that no way.
He barely messages me, when we do talk it’s only sexual talk. It’s like stepping on eggshells because I could just say one word and he reacts badly. I’ve always felt like it’s more of a friends with benefits thing then a relationship and I’ve asked him that several times and he just goes off at me and says we are together saying stuff like he owns me?

I told him last night how I felt and he just told me to shut up and stop causing shit like I always do. So to me that’s the final thing. I’m done with him. I just don’t understand why all of a sudden he changed? We did fight a lot but I know that’s because of miscommunication. I don’t get how someone can be so toxic?
