What does it mean if a guy calls you 'girl'?

So, there's this guy at work who is higher up than me. He is nice to everyone but every time he compliments me he'll add girl to the end of it. Like normally he'll compliment me on my work and say girl after. Is this a normal guy thing? (I don't kind it, just curious)

He may think that he's being charming and complimenting your femininity. But it does sound rather condescending or "male chauvinistic".

Some people might add the word "boy" to a guy's name, like calling him Billy boy if it has a ring to it. Maybe that's all the guy at work is doing to you. But he's walking on thin ice saying that to a women. He wouldn't call a black guy "boy".

Yeah I'm not too sure. He's never rude to me so I don't think it's out of harm. He says he's friendly to all his associates but he just acts more like hyped up around me and always checks in on me whenever he's not busy. Not sure though.

No, he knows my name. He calls me by name everyday. It's just on instances when he compliments me he adds girl to it.
