The guy I like is having a hard time?

the guy i like seems to be having a hard time in life and it saddens me that I cannot do anything. i got to know him recently and don't know what i can do about this.

You can be his friend, but don't put pressure on him. Try to keep a balance. Don't leave him hanging out to dry if you possess knowledge that could help him. But at the same time don't try to fix his problems all by yourself. Also, don't give expecting something in return; only help him if it's something you would do anyway regardless of the person involved.
(Also, don't give him any money. This should be common sense, but I had to write it out because there are people who would still make this mistake.)

by the way, I just thought of something. And it's something I completely missed earlier:
You could also ASK him. Ask him in what way he would like to be helped. Whether that be just moral support and encouragement or something else.

he does talk to me about his problems. but i feel like i am just an emotional support to him and nothing more

U may like him but he may be in a relationship or something that he has not toldd u at all.. let him fix his problems... There nothing u can do except be there for him
