How do you know if you’re trying too hard?

I think I’m doing too much with this guy I met but he has me confused. I don’t know if I should try and shower effort or let him do it more?

If balance the effort, give him the same effort he gives you

Let him do more and if he doesn't than just leave. If a guys wants you he will put efforts. Indecision is a decision.
