Was this bad of my guy friend to do?

So I’m a girl and I have a best guy friend and we both like eachother but we’re remaining friends for now. The other day we were in voice call with another guy friend and we were joking and the other guy friend (not my best friend) called me scum as a joke. My guy friend intervened in a very non aggressive way and said it was not nice of him to say and and the other guy apologized. After I left the call I saw my best friend stayed in call with him for an extra minute, assuming he was still talking about what he said. After he called me again, he told me he just re-told him about what he said and how bad it was. Is this a good way of standing up for me? I also stood up for myself too but I was just curious bc usually when I like guys I like them to also defend me? Was that a good way to defend me?
