I would have chosen a different word for a benign compliment so I could agree with your assessment with the limited info I have. That said my language changes with familiarity. There's a dispatcher at a sheriff's office that I provide tech services to that I'm really good friends with. I'll tell her when she's looking good using crass language but she and I are potty mouths to begin with.

And what to do about your situation? It would depend on the desired outcome you're looking for. You didn't really outline how he pisses you off so not sure what opinion I can give there. If you're interested in him take the compliment and maybe try and strike up some conversation (usual methods). If not either ignore him or when compliments it next stop what you're doing as soon as he says it and put your hair up. Kind of hard to get mixed messages from that.
