I went into Dunkin’ Donuts and a man older than me addressed me as ma’am and in my mind I’m like wtf ok. So then I tell him I want a breakfast sandwich and coffee then I say nevermind on the sandwich and he’s all like “I’ll make it and it only takes 2 mins” and I’m like no. So then as he scans the coffee it says senior discount on the register and I’m like “I’m only 37” completely shocked then he looks at me like “oh I’m just trying to give you a discount” then as I leave he hands me the coffee and addresses me as “miss” like I am truly insulted. A senior citizen is 50-60 years old and I’m only 37. 🥴

nope. you gave watched too much tv/movies letting yourself believe the trope that ma'am etc are insults. which in turn has turned you into a bit of a snowflake by the way. these terms are actually common terms of respect that many younger generations decided to take as insults (guessing just to have something to get mad about) . ma'am actually reffers to someone female between basic speaking age and dead (roughly 3 to 5 up to 10000000) . miss typically reffers to any female between puberty and death. that beong said, they can be used as insults depending on context and tone of voice plus intent. thing is that determination requires skills most humans lack these days.
