This sounds like casual conversation. He is trying to befriend you since you are new. There would need to be bigger signs to imply romantic interest, like flirting or asking for your number. Things like that.

Hey, you never know what could happen. This particular situation wasn’t telling enough, but maybe something else will happen in the future to give better indication to if he’s feeling something. I wouldn’t seek that though if I were you, work romance rarely ever ends well.
