Have you ever decided to stop being edgy and dramatic because it stopped working for you? How do you stay un-edgy?

I dunno. It just sort of happened to me.

I used to have black spikey hair, chains, eyeliner, listen to PtV and BvB and ADTR. Now I wish I could get rid of the scars that used to say "you said forever" down my arm.

It wasn't so much a decision. I didn't really do it for attention. It was just how I felt and how I wanted to look.

Well, being attractive to the girls I liked was definitely a factor so I did it for their attention. But it was more about feeling safe and hidden for me. I had a friend who's brother knew me for years. I slept at there house regularly. One day I took my hood off and he like, lost his mind when he saw I had really long blonde hair. Aparently he had never seen it.

But, I guess at some point I just sort of gave up and started wearing pajamas to school. That became the new trend, and it was a lot easier. Hair dye is expensive. It takes a lot of time.

I still don't try or pretend to fit in. I just like my reddish blonde hair and I like to be comfortable. I'm 25 now. Emo chick's in highschool are cool and different, passionate, related to the bad shit and were more mature, liked better music... Emo chick's at 25 are generally emotionally unstable and not going anywhere.

I'm not here to say it's a phase. I know people in their 40's with big gauges, eyebrow studs and trench coats and they are still awesome, but most people who don't change over time aren't growing.

Also, I found the real problem for me was I didn't like all the fakeup and matching outfits the preppy girls wore. I wanted something different, but natural beautiful hair, no makeup and clothes you can go hiking in really did it for me. I still love Halloween, but I don't miss the hairspray and makeup in my mouth.


So, it wasn't really a decision for me so much as it was a slow change over time. But it's not all gone. I was just trying to find another black hoodie that says "WAKE THE FUCK UP" in huge letters across the chest to replace the one someone stole. I'm still the same guy. I just don't feel like I have to prove it to anyone.

I don't really want most people to pay attention to me. I want the right ones too, but clothes and facepaint aren't gonna cut it for them. I'm working out, trying to practice guitar more. I play more Jessie McCartney and Taylor Swift than I do Mayday Parrade and A Day to Remember now. But it wasn't because I decided to stop. I just don't feel so sad and angry anymore. I want to play beautiful soul for my cat.

So it's just like, one of those things that happens. Maybe slowly over time, maybe you get fed up in a day and say fuck all this getting ready in the morning, maybe it's a hard sacrifice to get the job you want. . .

But what it really comes down to is finding yourself. Being sad and pissed off is great when you're 17 but we're out to find happiness and most of us end up with other priorities.

But shit, that doesn't mean I couldn't throw it back on for the right kind of concert.

I am what I am and I know who I am. I don't try to be this or that. You naturally have different aspects of your character and can change over time and with life experience but to me it's not a decision like today I'm going to be edgy or today I'm going to be soft to fit an agenda. I can't be what I'm not and it come off genuine.

Self reflecting class, such as yoga might help? Or the opposite if it works for you, say something like Martial arts. Gets that frustration out and have fun with others.

When the group your around is older being edgy isn't a good look. Most people transition to wholesomeness as they are older.
