Confusing behavior from a guy I've dated? Matching changed things?

I dated a guy for about 2 months back at the beginning of the year. We got back in touch recently and it seemed to be going well. However, we matched on a dating site recently (after texting) and then he sent a message saying he wasn't talking to anyone for sometime but noted I was nice so he wanted to inform me. What's the reason for this?

If I wanted to follow up and get closure or an answer as to why this strange behavior is happening, what could I say?

i not sure i understood what you wrote, he might have meant he wasn't seeing anyone else/texting them even tho he is on dating app but wants to text with you
if he meant he is not talking to anyone and not you as well id ask does he want to get to know me and text or not

I think he meant he isn't talking to "everyone", me included thus why he said to not take it personally? He said he needed time to reflect
