I've been told a couple of times when I was younger that I'm "pretty" by the opposite gender, mostly because I have a baby face and I always looked younger for my age.
But yes, it is sometimes offensive for guys to hear they're "pretty". Why? Because we work so hard in grooming ourselves and looking the best versions of us we can be. We wanna be called handsome, not pretty, if anything. And being called pretty makes us feel and come off as feminine or that we're doing something wrong.
How would girls react if we came up and told her in all seriousness that they look handsome? They'd probably be weirded out too or outright just offended too, wouldn't they?31 Reply

I do not think so because We get very few compliments.
In the meantime, I would appreciate it if you could comment on my question.

+1 yI have called men hot. Pretty boys exist for sure, but they're my weakness so I've never had the balls to approach them.
I've usually told men I liked how amazing their car was. Surprisingly, they react better to car compliments in comparison to looks.

🏍💨 No, I did. It’s about compliments from tge same gender which should otherwise be awkward and threatening to ones sexual pride. For me it’s not.
My mind is already on the road. I’m off for my first long ride in a really long time. I’m distracted. 😎 - +1 y

I've had several women tell me I'm beautiful. It's never bothered me at all.

@Sarahr123 exactly! Beautiful people are beautiful on a lot of levels.

u +1 ynot bothered, no... a couple of times, a couple girl decided to go with something similar about my smile and/or my eyes, the usual is when they say "great" or "nice"
but these two went with pretty, or beautiful, stuff like that... and I just found it funny because it was unusual, especially the first time... that one did throw me off a bit but not in a negative or bothered way, lol
but no, I've never been known for being a "pretty guy" lol229 Reply- +1 y

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yI’d probably just laugh… and say thanks… or I’d laugh and say…. “Close, but I’d say ‘I’m ruggedly handsome.”’ Or “you forgot ruggedly handsome, virile specimen of a man.” “Oh… And modest!”
I had a best friend in middle/high school who, when a girl (or our moms) would say something nice, or say “boys”, he would correct them and tell them we were “manly, manly, manly men” (Had to be at least three or four manlys in there). Then we’d both flex and grunt like body builders. (We were both VERY thin dudes at the time. Like weighing 120 pounds “soaking wet, holding a brick” kind of thin).
But no, I wouldn’t be offended or angry.30 Reply
+1 yI always say thank you with a big smile 😁 adding (very nice of you). I tell them they look good too, better than i do 😉. And we just talk, usually and they alwaya ask if am with someone or am i by my self, i always say (i am with the wife) and just leave 🤷♂️🤣

+1 yI’d burst out laughing, I hated it when my ex would say I was gorgeous or beautiful I’d say “no not beautiful men are handsome women are beautiful,” but she’d say I was horrible for not accepting the compliment, how can I accept something I know isn’t true? I’m not gorgeous or handsome.
I’ve always been told I’m fat and ugly and I can’t see past that so now if I’m told something different I just assume you’re lying. 😞20 Reply
+1 yI’ve been called beautiful, I’ve been called pretty. I don’t get upset at compliments, what would the point of that be?
44 Reply- +1 y
There is a difference if it is obviously meant to insult manhood or masculinity.
- +1 y
If people wish me a merry Christmas, I just say thank you I don’t get into a big rumble about it you know? As long as somethings meant to be a compliment or a social nicety not an insult I can roll with it.
+1 yThis is so weird you're asking this because this has never happened up until a month ago. I said something recently in front of a female friend and she replied with yeah because you're pretty and I could not stop laughing. So no it didn't bother me because I thought it sounded funny.
20 Reply383 opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. I love this question! I was thinking of doing one very similar. What do guys think about being called pretty and what new girls think about being called handsome?
Personally, I would feel complimented if someone were to call me pretty. It's just another way of saying good looking.11 Reply- +1 y
Same with me being called handsome.
Only females to ever say I'm beautiful have been ones online who have never seen my face and the one female who did see my face looked grossed out and ghosted me, so it's hard for me to accept the compliment or even think of it as truth, not to say it doesn't give me some hope even if it's a false hope.

Because I'm not facially blessed, I'd take anything like being called cute, pretty, handsome, etc 😆10 ReplyI have on a few occasions and I love it every time. Hell, I've gotten it from guys, too. It's a compliment. I see exactly zero reasont to read into it any more than that.

+1 yNo because it comes with the territory of being East Asian due to rising popularity of K-POP. I was told once I would make a good looking girl if I had long hair but that was when I was 13 years old.

+1 yNo I've never been called pretty, only cute or handsome. There was a time around middle school where I thought being called "cute" was a form of emasculation because I thought only girls, kids and pets were supposed to be cute🤦♂️ but now I'm okay with anything.
10 Reply4.9K opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. No guy (perhaps with the exception of some gay or trans guys) want to be called pretty or any other feminine term. Guys want to be referred to with masculine terms.

I don't call men beautiful but I have called some cute and they respond positivity to that, even though cute is a bit diminutive (which some men could interpret as emasculating).
