Is he a friend or not?

Me (19F) and him (19M) have been friends for a couple of months now. We have been emotional intimate like trying to be there for each other, but not so much as he is still private about it. He does share stuff sometimes. He is known to have a jokey personality like pretending to have a tumour as a prank or pretending to have a girlfriend. I have noticed that he makes a lot of jokes of me liking him, but I never brought up anything like that. Recently he decided to ask me if i liked him on group chat, to which I answered yes, due to his reputation, not taking it seriously. I later asked him why he asked such a thing, to which he replied "it was a set." Im getting confused on whats going on. Do i set boundaries because im not sure if i feel like that about him, or am i assuming something here?

I would set boundaries with the main reason being how he jokes around. Who fakes a tumor when there’s people actually struggling and/or dying because of them? Then the jokes about having a girlfriend and asking if you like him, it’s all just so childish and there’s nothing attractive about a liar. You should want someone more mature.
