I told my male bestfriend that i'm leaving town for a year, and this was his response? can someone tell me if this is normal? will he cut me out?

he said "so i should mentally prepare for myself and get used to you not being around" so i jokingly answered and said "how will you live with that?" so he said "that's why i need to prepare myself and normalize it". and he kept on saying that he'll adjust himself to my absence etc... since it's better to get used to it before it happens
