Guy at work has no work reason to talk to me, sees me on the phone at lunch, what does it mean when he goes past if he stops, smiles & whispers hello?

I would say he probably likes you? It's possible he's just doing it out of friendliness but that wouldn't make much sense unless he's just like that with everyone.

Then yes I'd be willing to bet he likes you. Guys (at least the vast majority) don't go out of their way like that unless they're interested in some way. Though I'd say just talk to him and see where the conversation goes rather than get your hopes up right away.

Slight problem is I'm very nervous around him as I don't like a guy often and I've liked him since October last year. He asked me if was ok yesterday and my mind went blank, I couldnt think of anything to say to keep a conversation going.

Well, that's a pretty long time... Just try to come off like you're calm (even if you aren't), and make small talk (most guys don't care how the conversation goes, just as long as it's not dry/uninteresting). "Did you do anything fun last weekend?", "Did you see [x] movie", "Today was such a busy day for me, how about you?" etc
