This is a great question. In terms of how to know if he likes you. Does he try to talk to you is one. Does he act differently around you than other girls or around his friends. He might watch you and then, if you notice him, pretend he wasn't looking. If you guys are in the same school, he may walk to his classes such that he has to pass by you/your locker/your class. Does he try to sit near you at lunch. Etc. Stuff like that.

As for what does he look for? You're cute. He may like your hair, or clothes, or whatever. Unless you are in the same class or sport or something where he hears you talk and your opinions, etc., it'll be something physical or tangible that gets him looking. But, still, what's he looking for? Let's get it out of the way, yes, boys want sex. But that doesn't mean that's necessarily what he wants. Or all he wants. He wants a girlfriend. A companion. He wants to talk to you. To laugh. To share something. He wants someone who will be nice. Who won't treat him one way, her girlfriends another, and other guys a third way. He wants you to talk. He actually wants to care about your life and vice versa.
