Why did he say that we don't need to be in constant contact and text me again seconds later?

Me and this guy had been getting close, texting constantly for months and had met up a few times. I know he's not much of a texter, but he put in quite a bit of effort and we were getting closer. When trying to organise seeing other again, I noticed he began to make excuses and I told him that if we felt differently then I wasn't comfortable with maintaining this type of contact with him. He agreed and said he sees no reason to remain in constant contact, but as soon as he sent me that message he then goes onto Instagram and replies to our conversation that we had been having a few hours before? I don't quite understand - isn't he completely contradicting what he just said?

It may have to do with liking you but at one time you were texting him relentlessly with the long dissertation girl texts. I don't know cause I am not there and there is no explanation.

That can kill a guy but we like you but you're killing me. I tell you and might be afraid that I lost you. It was his way of PROBABLY saying the he is not mad at you and still likes you.

Give him what he wished for - less contact and better yet maybe even cut him off. Tell him he shouldn’t give a vibe he can’t maintain / doesn’t want
