my guess is that he probably wanted to have another method of communication. Whether that be because he likes you, wants an ego stroke, wanted it in a platonic way is to be seen. When you said no, he probably thought you were lying and decided to give you the cold shoulder. Whatever his motive was... his reaction was not appropriate.
