Why is my crush being so distant after flirting constantly with me?

a couple of days ago, the boy i liked had messaged me. we started small talk and what not and then it slowly progressed into something more. He'd say stuff like "if we ever date" or call me petnames and what not. i even let him know multiple times emotionally that id always be there for him. However, sense yesterday he's been ridiculously distant. he has been leaving me on read constantly, and i think he's also trying to avoid me in real life. this was all of a sudden and i can't help but overthink everything. I've been worried that I've been lead on, and it kinda hurts because i really liked him and hoped we'd be something more one day, but I don't know. HELP!!

First off the correct term is boy. He's definitely not a man. Second have you ever met this boy? I don't know of any mature person who starts off with "pet" names. This usually comes after knowing someone for quite a while. It kills me when people come up with the lazy popular pet names simply because they're not paying attention to who they're with. My suggestion is keep it moving.
