maybe he is trying to spend time with you. regardless its a skill that is worth having you neverf know when it will come in handy. also it teaches you how to read an engine so you can gauge what's kinda wrong with your engine in an automatic. I find that is a valuable skill I learned and honestly prefer to drive one.
