He’s an extroverted person but whenever he’s near me he looks nervous and awkward and doesn’t talk to me but talks with everyone else?

we do track together and he talks with a lot of people. he's an extroverted person yet when he sees me or is near me he is suddenly quiet? or he would look awkward and nervous when im nearby. its like he’s suddenly different. but then off into the distance i would see him going to people and talking, etc. he would look at me most of the times and just not say anything. whenever the guys on my team would joke at me with my coach and my friend, he would not even say a word or join in. he would just listen trying not to look like he is. but he just noticeably glances/looks at me would sit near me at the bus, things like that. all the guys on my team talk with me yet he just doesn’t but he listens. he talks with everyone else including my friend. any thoughts about this or advice on why that is?

i had another track meet yesterday and when he first arrived to the place we waited to wait for the bus he started suddenly talking directly to me and joking w me a lot more out of the blue.. he did that throughout the meet and even cheered for me at my event so loud. my bag spilled w pickle juice on it and the ball we had to use smelled like it. so on the bus (we sat next to eachother on different aisles AGAIN) he asked to smell the ball and so i gave it to him and we touched/brushed hands?

cont. he also asked me for goldfish on the bus, and kept looking at me at the meet. one time i was talking to my coach on the bleachers and he was kinda behind him to the left (i was facing him) on his phone looking down and he suddenly shifted his head to my direction to see me more- i had my phone w me on our event and i took a picture w my friends and wandered around and i can feel he was trying to see my screen at times. any more thoughts?
