Why won't he make plans, what does it mean?

Me and this guy I had college classes with last semester have been keeping in touch every since I graduated last month. The conversations have grown lately and now we text all day, everyday and late into the night. We both like to tease each other, but he always makes sure he doesn't offend me. Lately we keep talking about who will win if we play Mario kart. He says he will win so I used it as an opening and asked him to come over and play. He said he will one day. We talked about drinking together but again he won't make plans and told me to let him get a job first.

I am just confused because he acts flirty with me sometimes and we talk all the time. Our conversations are sometimes deep but mostly they are light and fun. It feels like a good balance. I honestly think he likes me but the fact that he won't make plans to hang out makes me doubt that.

I see the entire situation as follows:

While it is nice to talk to you, something you would do in a long distance relationship, he is not ready to go a step further and be too close by fear of the possible consequences.

Also, his entire situation tells me that he may have a girlfriend or at least someone else in his life he likes besides you. That would explain why he is hesitant to let it go a step further and to be too close (physically) to you.

He may also be a little on the shy side and be afraid that being together, alone with you could lead to a situation he does not want to be in. In other words, he is perhaps afraid that there will be a deeper physical contact if you know what I mean.

He is not ready to go beyond a certain point at this time.

Thanks I think you are right about him not being ready to move past friends. He did tell me that he doesn't talk to anyone else as much as he talks to me though.

If he is not making plans then he is not serious. Screw the insecurities garbage, if we want it then we will pursue it without fear but with a knowledge of possible failure

He might feel insecure because he doesn’t have a job and won’t be able to take u out and spend money on u. That’s very embarrassing for a guy.
