It depends on the guy. Some for some guys take it in different ways. Some guys may not want to be reminded of something painful.

Is this following a relationship that's more than friends? That's awkward and very difficult for most people because it's an open wound. Memories of what was. Knowledge that, for some reason, there's no longer a relationship -- maybe not my fault so I feel like crap/rejected or maybe my fault and I know that and don't want to be reminded about it.

If it's friends then I would argue that you can't be friends without talking. It's one thing to have been friends for years and perhaps you only talk once a year, but if you're friends and then one party stops talking, that's kinda like rejection. And, again, no talking is awkward.

I just had a girl on Instagram tell me we "can't be "just friends" as you girls love to claim we can be, simply because she has a boyfriend.
