Trending & News Yes it's rude, but sometimes that's the intent. Generally it's unhelpful though, and people are really unlikely to respond well, especially if you debase them in public.
If someone is ignorant and you actually want to help them, it's much more productive to subtly ask them some leading questions that open their mind to think about their perspective. If you start sounding all high-and-mighty, they'll get defensive and stop listening, so you need to be diplomatic.
It takes active effort for people to think beyond their own perspective, to consider other people's wants and needs, and it's often hard to see the big picture, especially when our culture promotes black-and-white, good-or-bad judgments with no nuance.
I think it depends on how it’s being said. Some people suggest it out of genuine necessity while others use it as an insult.
