His first "Irene" girlfriend was attractive, etc. and yet he refers to her as a "yes man". Translation she was a doormat that he treated poorly - maybe even cheated on given his topic - and because she didn't believe she could get better she took him back. If she'd been a woman of self respect/esteem she'd have tossed him out to the street curb the first time.
The woman he wanted "Jessica" was a decent, attractive and respectable woman. Someone he actually tried to pursue but who didn't even care enough to give him the time of day. He says she married a "good guy" because duh she's marriage material, the sort of women men actually WANT. Men don't want sluts, they want women that'd be good wives & mothers.
