To me - and many decent women/people - when we think of alpha men we think of men with attitude problems, who are insecure, petty, insult others to make themselves feel special, drive muscle cars & big trucks to compensate for... things... and more. They typically attract women who may be overly hot but are typically shallow, insecure, petty, similarly have attitude problems / nasty by nature, and "value" the man only because of his bank account (if he died of a heart attack she'd pickpocket him & leave his corpse to rot in the sun).

I mean REAL leaders don't go around like a moron bleating their own horn & thinking they are special like "alphas" widely do. REAL leaders are identified by their mannerism, etc. and most of it it's as far from a "alpha" wannabe as we're from the sun.

These are more of a fake persona that guys like to claim. In reality you can’t actually categorize people in this manner simply because real life relationships actually need a little bit of all of those qualities at the right time in a situation.


If you go by “alpha” mentality then you’re going to find yourself looked at as pompous and arrogant. If you’re more “beta”, well women don’t like men that are timid. Sigma is a loner, but to much of that and you dont commit to anything and so your essentially a bachelor for life. people love to categorize themselves and everything and everyone, but thats fantasy not reality. A real man has all those things.

And Although he is tough and rugged, he also has a soft side that is shown towards his kids and his wife. Thats just a few things but you need all those things to be a complete good man. There are more like seven male personality types. Alpha is classically a leader but I would say there are two subcats. One tries to dominate physically and another tries to unite and inspire. The first type is what you describe and usually fails outside a formal power structure.

Beta's get a bad rap. Formally they are a 2IC type and implement and manage.

I consider myself to be a Sigma (rather than a stigma) because I am comfortable with working by myself or in a group and being inventive and setting directions. I can lead and inspire but prefer to be working things out technically rather than do the leadership shit. Feels like a comfortable coat to me.

There others such as Omegas, Deltas, Gammas, Zetas if you google male personality types. There are various differences in descriptions. I don't care about them much because they aren't relevant to me getting shit done.

I've seen women claiming to be alpha females but I don't think this is possible. It more comes across as Little Miss Bossy Boots who gets upset when nobody pays attention to her. It is like a man who tries to be Alpha by being threatening and gets as much respect.

But that approach is weak because nobody will ever put in discretionary voluntary effort for an Alpha bully.

Worked at a company where the CEO would give a talk every few months and I will forget the talk on discretionary voluntary effort. He saw it as the key that made the company successful. Exactly right and I have always tried to get discretionary voluntary effort when I have people working for me. Hell I get it from people in other companies who should charge for it.

An Alpha Bully can badger extra work out of people but an Inspiring Alpha gets that without asking and better quality work to boot

Well it is Sigma not Stigma. :). Look I don't believe in astrology because I am a Capricorn but I have to admit that my character matches up with Capricorn pretty well even though star signs are very generic.

The question is are there broad categories of personality types? Certainly there are Type A and B people because that is well research. Myer-Briggs too has 18 personality types.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what categorization scheme you might use or not use, or accept or not accept or find useful or not useful. There are still different personality types.
