People change as they grow older. I mean, you have known him for 6 years now and perhaps he decided that 6 years of close contact with you was enough and that he needed his "independence".
It is fine to want new things but it is not fine to shut people out of their lives from one second to the other. It shows that this boy is immature and has no notion of what is acceptable to do and what not. It is also a matter of bad education.
Don't hang onto him because it will only show that you have no self-confidence and a lack of self-respect. When the time comes that he wants to know you again, you can tell him that the way he behaved is not what you expect from a person that has a minimum of decency.
Never lower yourself and your dignity or bend backwards for someone's attention. They don't deserve it.

Stop doing what you're doing and learn a little thing called "self respect".
If you continue to have the attitude of wanting to please people who see you as nothing more than a means to fulfill their own ego, you'll end up being stomped on by men you're whole life and end up a very broken and confused person.
Let him try to win you back, not the other way around. And even then, make him tread lightly
There is often another woman involved in cases like this that does not want female Bestie. Let him go and give him time.
