Why does he always criticise my clothing?

This guy who used to have a thing for me (ages ago) always criticises my clothing choices. Why does he even care so much? He says things like "Why are you always wearing white tops?" in a judgmental tone. Or "You always wear skinny jeans" and gives me a dirty look.

I thought guys didn't pay any attention to what girls wear, especially if they dislike them. I also dislike him back but I don't make it obvious. I have a decent sense of style, so I don't know why he's so pressed.

Maybe that is just a childish was to get your attention, like kids do when provoking someone continuously. He doesn't want to make it obvious that he wants some attention, so he uses these "rude" ways. This is my guess but reasons could be others, for example if he is an extrovert and judgmental with anyone then it's just his normal (annoying) way to be and that wouldn't mean anything.
Don't laugh or smile at his attempts if you don't like this approach otherwise he gets confirmation to do it again. Maybe reply like if you are in "wtf", like indirectly meaning he is crazy or out of place in what he is saying and that you aren't bothered or interested in any capacity.

Because he is a jerk. No other way to put it. Like worry about yourself dude. Comments like that are so incredibly unnecessary.

I think his trying to either get to you or get your attention. I would either ignore it or just crack a joke back so it comes across like you aren’t bothered.
