Okay update I did tell him I really really like him and he was so emotional, he asked if I really meant. It and asked if he could hold me tonight. He didn't say he liked. Me too though

Life isn't like a Hollywood movie where you confess your feelings and then have nice cathartic cry about it and feel euphoria and joy. Or then have sex.

Sometimes people don't realize what it is they feel. Especially for young people, it can be confusing.

I'd worry less about if his reaction aligned with how you imagined it would and more about the little things he does for you or the consideration he gives you as a person.

You know he might not be consciously admit to himself that he's in love with you, but if he'd walk through a blizzard to make sure you were ok, then we can reasonably infer what's actually going on.

He's probably complimenting you because he genuinely thinks those things but doesn't have romantic feelings for the asker. Or alternatively he does have feelings for the asker but got flustered and excited and forgets to actually answer the question and instead lavishes the asker with those compliments.

Usually that means he cares about you and your relationship so he doesn't want to hurt your feelings by saying no. Those answers typically mean friendzone. At least in my experience i could be wrong.

How did you respond to that? If you didn't say anything he won't say he likes you because he doesn't want to be rejected.
If you like him too, then tell him. Especially if he is shy.
