I was thinking about this today. My boyfriend never asked me to be his girlfriend. One day he just told his friend I was his girl. Then we be an official. Why don't men ask to be your man anymore?
There’s always different ways to approach, not only will different dudes approach differently but they may also change it up each time. For example, my first time I wanted to start building a relationship I simply asked her if she liked me. Over time I treasured our companionship enough to where I’d call her my girl and me her man, but then it ended, and the language still makes sense so I’ll probably just wait until I’m confident in asking her to be my girlfriend without looking obsessive or stupid. With approaching, guys want the moment to be perfect, so they may change up their language depending on the situation and what they think they can dish out so to speak.

Because very few women are worth it. It's easier and better to just get our needs met without committing. Most women only care to find a decent guy to "settle" with after they're over 30 and getting desperate. Nobody likes leftovers.
They do. Not every one of them, obviously, but trust me they do.

Clearly if he asks you to be his woman then there's implied ownership there and that's unacceptable to these strong independent women out here. Best to just not ask.
maybe guys are growing tired and enraged of having to be the initiators?
