Why did a guy I was talking to at work suddenly change his mind?

Basically a guy and I were talking at work, he asked me out on a date and things were good. We FaceTimed, texted a lot and such everyday for a couple of weeks. He made it seem like he wanted a relationship and said things like “it’s inevitable we’ll end up more than friends” and just said lots of things that made it seem like he wanted something more so even though I was hesitant, I caved and started liking him. He seemed really genuine and nice. He came over twice, wanted me to meet his mum, wanted to meet my parents etc. but I told him I was kinda not comfortable w/him meeting my parents or vice versa yet since nothings official and that type of thing is important to me. He said he understood. Day before valentines he messaged me and asked if we could talk. Told me because we work together we should just stay friends and that we shouldn’t have talked outside of work. Told me also it’s cause neither of us have our licenses yet and that we’re in our last year of school. He said that he thought we’d be great together but it probably isn’t a good idea. Told me he was thinking about this the entire time we were talking apparently. I asked him to tell me if there would be anything there in future so I could move on, and he just said best thing for both of us is for me to move on and focus on myself. Haven’t talked to him since. Been a month now. Left him on open on snap, but he still follows me on Insta. What’s guys’ opinions on this? Why would you do this if this was you personally? Is it cause you’re being genuine with what you’re saying or is it cause you just lost interest/found someone else?

thanks
