Any stereotypes about people from Quebec? Montreal?

What are some stereotypes or ideas you have about people from Quebec? Montreal? Do you view them differently than other Canadians?

Quebec is significantly more european then the rest of Canada. The rest of canada alternatively bitches about quebec and is proud of the fact that we're more european then the U.S., which frankly is mainly thanks to quebec.

Montreal is sort of different from 'Quebec' in that montreal was traditionally the main english city in canada, up till the mid 1970s. Its a fun, cosmopolitan city that has been economically depressed for decades.

Other parts of quebec remind me more of traditional catholic europe - a traditionally more conservative area that 'reformed' later, but more drastically then more 'protestant' ones.

oh, they also have better smoked meat and bagels then the rest of us (montreal in particular).

I'll be honest, I don't know too much about Canada other than Quebecois are separatists? And they speak French. And a good portion of the rest of Canada hates them.

Only that you do not want to be a part of Canada. That is the stereotype anyways. I know that it is not completely true. I love how the NDP won the elections, they got my vote too.

Quebecer in Montreal are really open and easy to talk to. Quebecer in the rest of the province are really racist and judgmental, kinda redneck too and a bit too defensive about their opinions.

I don't know any differences between folks from Quebec verses the rest of Canada.

I do know however that most Canadians hate Americans and America itself for no good reason. They've been told a lot of half-truths and some flat out lies about the US and they believe them without doing any research themselves.

A lot like the rest of the world.

I'm Canadian, and I don't hate America or Americans. Granted, I'm only one person, but still. Most of the people I know have nothing against Americans.

Well you two are the first Canadians I've met who don't have anything bad to say about America or its people.

My statement was based on personal experience, I've met hundreds of Canadians (the vast majority of them from when I worked for Air Canada a couple years ago) and not a single one had a nice thing to say about America.

Well, I've been to the U.S, and have had some unpleasant experiences (in Miami), but still, I don't hate America/its people.

If you worked for Air Canada, it's possible that many of the people there didn't have nice things to say because they were constantly being exposed to some unhappy travelers, a lot of whom were probably American. Just a thought.

I didn't deal with passengers, I dealt with pilots, operations agents and dispatchers, folks who work behind the scenes and are only minimally exposed to the dissatisfied flying public.

And for the record I didn't technically work for Air Canada, I worked for US Airways in Boston (I now work for them in Philadelphia). In Boston US Airways was contracted to handle part of their ground operations, my job was to load and unload their airplanes.

Ah, well, I'm sure they're still exposed to more Americans than the average citizen. Plus, people tend to judge an entire nation based on their experience with one or a few individuals.

It's unfortunate they have such negative opinions, but I assure you not all Canadians hate you. :P

Sorry but you just dug your own grave with that statement in the fourth comment. While I myself have nothing against Americans, my opinion means nothing compared to "hundreds of Canadians" who the vast majority of them worked for Air Canada mean they have seen much more of America and Americans to be better Judges. Their opinion as a whole is enough to be a good sample size so they must be right. :)

A few hundred share the same opinions about something then it says something about other people like them. If I only had one or two Canadians say such things to me then they could be dismissed as isolated incidents.

Also note that I said "most" not "all" and that's the impression I get when EVERY Canadian I've met with only one exception before now all say the same thing.
