Is my new guy a controlling man or it’s normal to frequently ask what I’m doing?

We live 5 hours away. Of course, I appreciate his time to ask.
The thing is that he skips the questions when I ask about him. He goes straight to the main question.
Example. “Thank you my love what are you doing?” He does call me here and there and texts me every time. Now that he has family over I give him space to enjoy them but I noticed he’s asking more and more. He does send me photos here and there about his day and replies late (completely fine I do the same thing) Example: I went to the movies and he kept asking with whom and if I was already him on top of asking me all day.

He seems like he might be getting really close to crossing into paranoia and therefore controlling but it's really hard to say. That could all be innocent curiosity. But I find it strange he won't answer about himself and skips ahead to grilling you. I'd make him answer and not answer until he does more. Asking "with whom" constantly is mildly concerning but I guess as long as he's not trying to tell you who you can and can't do things with then it's probably not an attempt to control you. As long as it's all just questions, I would give him benefit of the doubt. If it ever switches into disapproval on his part and they become commands instead of questions then there is no doubt anymore.

If he's the type of guy I'm thinking of, it's coming from a place of heart and care for you, it's the distance thing that's killing him, I've felt that feeling before of having someone you care about too far from you to involve yourself in a situation if you need too so you constantly and indirectly ask them what they are doing to make sure everything is okay, mostly if they see that you seem off somehow, mostly if he's an overthinker, normally when I get defensive I don't ever mistrust my partner it's always others I mistrust and guys can have fears from long distance.

Guys who actually like women tend to be a little territorial with women.

But if y'all just started seeing each other, it's probably a little soon for him to actually care too much cause if it comes to light you still doing things single people do, should be pretty easy to bounce.
