Is it normal for a guy friend to be so upset I unfollowed him?

I’ve been friendly with a guy I met at Uni for over 4 years, I liked him he didn’t like me but acted as if he did. Recently we reconnected online and after a few weeks of chatting he mentions he’s married. I unfollowed him because he ignored me anyway and I felt like there was no point. Then he sends me a message saying ‘what did you expect from me. You’ve got the problem being friends to unfollow me, I’m trying to be civil but I don’t have time for these games’…….
I was shocked, why did he go so mad, I thought he didn’t care but why is he so upset? I didn’t even reply…what’s his problem?

Something like that wouldn't trigger most people unless they had other things going on. Don't think too deeply about it since it was probably just transitional anger.

Ahh ok, can you explain a bit more on what that means?

It means everyone has things going on in the background that you might not be privy to. Your boss could be having an affair. Your neighbor could have stubbed their toe earlier, anything and everything. When those issues start to compound, and you no longer feel like you're in control, and a small thing like unfollowing a person's social media can easily lead to an overreaction.

Although rather than seeing the situation as you unfollowed him to move on. He may have thought you unfollowed him to get him to chase you... after making it known to you he is unavailable.

Out of curiosity, did you unfollow him to provoke an action or to move on? I have no idea who you are, nor do I care about that relationship, just curious about your motive

It was mainly because I realised I still have some feelings for him and it wasn’t right for me when he’s married now. He doesn’t know that but that’s the truth, I didn’t expect him to react the way he did I guess…

As if he didn’t care, that’s the impression he gave me, and being married I thought it wouldn’t matter, we weren’t close friends or anything. Can I ask how would you react if it was you?

The way I would react would be based on how I know you and what I assumed your motive was. As I eluded to earlier, if I thought you were manipulative and unfollowed me to provoke an action, I would block you on the spot. If I assumed you were obsessing and unfollowed me to break that obsession, I wouldn't have brought any attention to it.

My behaviour was confusing so I guess it was just the final little straw. I didn’t mean to hurt him at all, maybe he cared about the friendship more than he let on
