Honestly I think you two should have a conversation about what happened and what it means. Do you just want to stay friends or is a potential relationship? It’s better to just have that uncomfortable convo and see where you both stand regardless of outcome. If it was a one time thing better to know now and get over the awkwardness, or maybe it could be more and you can move towards that if that is what you both want

He could have left at anytime after the sex. He choose to stay because he wanted to stay with you. It would have been okay for you to move closer to him on couch too. Y'all by y'all's self so there's no social stigma of you taking a little charge.

i think he worried that you think he was "too rushed" to get to sex and is showing he can also go slower. still if you want him near, i suggest inviting, as below, so he will stop worrying. if sat fat, inviting like "sit here" or after a shoulder side hug, "let's do a real hug". then he will know closeness is fine.
