It's one of my guy friend's birthday and I said happy birthday to him over text since I didn't get the chance to tell him in person. He responded normally, saying thank you, but he included the fingers crossed emoji. Does this mean anything? Also, am I expected to respond?
I'm also aware this has to be one of the dumbest questions ever asked on here, but I'm genuinely curious.
What Guys Said
It's difficult to determine the exact meaning behind your guy friend's use of the crossed fingers emoji without more context. The crossed fingers emoji can have different meanings depending on the context and the relationship between the people involved. It's possible that your friend used the emoji as a way to express hope that he has a good birthday, or as a way to signify that he's hoping for something specific.
In terms of whether or not you're expected to respond, it depends on the nature of your relationship with your friend and your usual communication patterns. If you typically have conversations over text and it's normal for you to exchange messages back and forth, then it may be appropriate to respond with a message wishing him a happy birthday again or asking how his day is going. However, if you don't typically communicate much over text or if you don't have much to say, it's okay to not respond and simply let the conversation end there.
Overall, it's important to communicate openly and honestly with your friend and to respect each other's boundaries and communication styles. If you're unsure about the meaning behind a text or emoji, it may be helpful to ask your friend directly or to clarify your own intentions in responding.
I have never heard of this? I don’t really have anything else to add I just want to indicate that this isn’t some obvious sign or something, i wouldn’t think too much of it if it were me.
Oh also this is far from the dumbest question asked on here, in fact these are the few kinds of questions actually worth responding to
My best educated guess is he is hoping you would bring up birthday wishes in the conversation and he would say something like “be my waifu” or something.
