A coworker sometimes gives me long annoyed stares and does not look away when I catch him staring. However he is very polite and sometimes friendly when I approach him. I feel like he dislikes me however I noticed that he sits very close to me and leans in a bit too much during conversations so he can't hate me that much.
Why does he behave like this? Did I do anything to offend him? I can't ask him directly because he is very non confrontational

Obviously you are misreading his 'long annoyed stares' if he is polite and even friendly towards you. Why are you so fixated on this one guy? It doesn't sound like he is behaving any sort of weird way.
Also, your reason for not asking him is confusing. Did you mean to say YOU are non-confrontational?
Maybe he is just weird? I met people like that before. Does he look at you with an angry face or more like an annoyed face?

I've never seen him look at other people like this but I don't observe him that much. Usually he has a very friendly and open demeanour

I dont think so, but if he is polite and confident, you could ask him, even if he is not confrontational. Worst case scenario you stumped into a psychopath but i don't think that's the case
