Why do some people make excuses to break up instead of saying they aren't interested?

I've had this happened to me twice in my life and just curious why can't some guys just say this instead of looking for an excuse.

Because some people are in fear of the reaction of being 100% honest to the person. Honestly though, if you know it’s an excuse and you know they just weren’t interested, then there’s no reason to harp on the excuse? Just take it for what it is and move on.

First of all, us guys have a heart and don’t want to hurt another person. This can lead to slow fade of a relationship which is worse. So they’re telling you excuses cuz they don’t want to make it personal rejection.

Second, can you please enlighten me on what “excuses” they’re using in your example? This way I’ll understand better and what they really mean

Some people, when they are on the receiving end of “I’m not interested,” take that as a personal rejection and feel sad for awhile. I suspect that those same people don’t want to say that since they think it would hurt you.
