Why does he keep avoiding me when we cross paths on the same road and choose to turn around and take another road?

So, a few months ago, I joined a sports extracurricular activity. He and I are in the same extracurricular activity but he joined a few years earlier. We're in the same school and we met and got to know each other for the first time in this extracurricular activity. During my time there, he twice invited me to join the others to talk and get to know each other, once helped me set up the equipment I used for sports, offered to help when I had trouble with the equipment, and explained some things about handling the equipment. Lately, whenever he and I passed each other while walking on the same road, he always avoids me and chose to take another road. There was one time when we crossed paths while walking and if we had continued walking, we would have bumped into each other and he and I immediately refrained from continuing walking but his response was quite surprised, I mean before I continued walking, I knew he was there and I couldn't have just bumped into him. In addition, I also said goodbye to him and his friend to go home first. His friend returned my greeting but he did not reply or turn his head at all even though we were standing quite close. What was wrong with him? Did I do something wrong with him? I didn't bother him and we rarely spoke either. I just try to be friends with all of them...

He is 19 years old. I don't know if he's shy or not, but I've noticed that he's not a talkative person and sometimes he cares about what his other friends are going through because I've heard him asking why they don't want to practice etc. My friend also said that in the past (before I joined), he was a cold person, now he seems a little approachable, but I see him as a serious and goal-focused person.

I actually don't have any feelings for him, I'm just confused by his behaviour and curious as to why he behaves like that..

Thank you for your advice. But I doubt it and afraid of disturbing him because he doesn't seem interested in talking to me. In the past, I've called his name and wanted to ask about enrolling in something at school, but he seemed quite bothered by it...
