Tell your boyfriend he is being an asshole. If he wants you to congratulate his son on his birthday you have to at least meet him and preferably spend time with him.
If you sent him birthday congrats he wouldn't even know who you were. Then your boyfriend might tell him, but that won't register, he's a kid. Your boyfriend is being a dick.
